Timberland Boat Shoes

Just got a pair of boat shoes from Timberland (see image below) for the warm and hot days! Bought them at Nordstrom Rack for around 50% off MSRP. Two eyelets, brown leather upper and lining, non-marking rubber sole with the famous razor cuts, 360 degrees lacing. The shoe was assembled in Dominican Republic.

The design of this shoe is plain simple. No complicated leather cuts, no fancy soles, no extra lining, padding, or arch support (I don't want them), easy to slide in/out and to lace, and no unnecessary stitching. Those characteristics make it the kind of shoe I like to wear.

Particularity of this model? Can't find it online! (Search Google for Timberland men's boat shoes for a try). It seems to be a blend between the Youngstown and the Classic models. The model number is 44552. Note that unlike other models,
  • Stitching is also brown,
  • The footbed is all brown (except for some blue foam), with the toe box unlined, no removable soles or anything,
  • Although the brand name is embossed on the upper vamp, the logo is located on the outer side of the heel rather than close to the eyelets,
  • There is no padding on the upper vamp, the vamp is made of a single leather piece,
  • There is no double-line stitching around the eyelets.
  • Stitching is visible on the outsole, similar to the Sperry AOs.
From the label, it seems the shoe was made in 2006 or 2007. It takes some time to reach the racks! The label indicates the environmental impact, including a 6% renewable source usage, a 74% PVC-free manufacturing process and a minimalist box in plain 100% recyclable cardboard.

Who said loafers were girly?

Stumbled upon a link to a forum where guys post their shoes for the day. On this link, some dude just realized what he was missing.

Mall Shopping

I recently found out I like shopping in designer clothing boutiques, and not only for the merchandise they carry. Can you guess why else and post a comment of your answers? Good luck.

Hotel Sight Seeing

One girl in black flats and ankle trousers, barefeet. She had her shoes off when standing on a sofa chair to watch a live performance. Hot feet!

On the other side of the hotel lounge, one (gay?) guy in black penny loafers and ankle pants, barefoot. Hot feet!

And extra time gazing at the girl shoe playing on the way back while waiting for the train!

Brown Shoe Search

In trying to identify a brown shoe for fall and spring, the following results from a Google search drew my attention:
Take a closer look at the brown shoe (image courtesy xxx):
It appeared at least five times in the search and was quite cute; however, it was not until the shoe appeared in two consecutive result rows that I realized I almost missed something. Smooth upper leather, suede-like contours, and a white rubber sole. What I like about these shoes is the design with minimal decorations. I would go for them right away if they had black soles and laces instead. They are part of a larger "Comme des garçons" collection from UK designer Pointer Footwear. For your convenience, this is where the two search links point to:
For my part, I will continue my search for a fall/spring shoe.

Nothing wrong with wearing certain women's socks

Stylish men who don't compromise and want to both show ankle skin and keep their feet dry would go to great lengths to wear footies for men (e.g. as suggested here), only to find out that the women's counterpart is very similar and readily available! Read the original post here.

As for me, I just got a pair of opaque nylon socks from clearance boxes. Can't wait to put them with my dress loafers...

Power Shoes Turn Heads on the Web

Primarily women's heads, since ladies reportedly go into a search madness to follow the fashion statements of the U.S. First Lady. This time, it's a wedge from Kate Spade.
When will men shoes get such an exposure? President Obama, will you follow your wife's "initiative?"

    The Art of Shoe Throwing

You've seen it on TV with U.S. President Bush dodging a shoe thrown at him during a press conference (courtesy CBS):

Now it's back, and some news agencies (AP: a shoe flies, a leader ducks) call it a trend...

I think the trend mentioned in the AP article is largely inspired by former Soviet chief Nikita Khrushchev who, at the 1960 UN Assembly incident, slammed is shoe to the podium in protest against opinions expressed by leaders of countries under colonialism. There is a quite famous picture circulating all over the web, like this one courtesy marshallpoe/Mechanical Icon:
